Burma Update
february 2009
Dear Intercessors,
APOSTOLIC JOURNEY TO BURMA (Feb 13-20)
Thanks so much for praying. It was an incredible trip; a trip made in God’s correct timing. I am so thankful that Mark Wheeler could make it. It took a miracle: he had a very short time to get his tickets and visa. Many of you prayed, and his visa came through just in time (the day before his departure).
He flew from South Dakota and I flew from Japan. We met in Yangon and began ministering on Sunday. In the first service, the Lord showed me to minister on “breaking the spirit of witchcraft.” That really brought breakthrough. From that point on, the leading of the Holy Spirit became much clearer and more definite. During the Sunday night service, the Lord led us to declare a 10-day Daniel fast. Most of the people who attended the seminar (Monday - Thursday) joined the fast. I explained the Holy Spirit would show them some legitimate thing to lay aside for the 10 days. The Daniel fast really enabled great focus to come to the seminar.
My focus for going to Myanmar was to see the prophetic and apostolic really established. As I explained in the most recent newsletter, I had gone a number of times and those trips were very fruitful. But, I wanted the church and Bible school to shift into the AP as a movement; not to just view it as one of God’s luxuries. I want them to become “see-ers” of the vision and to carry it on themselves. God really helped us. I feel some major results occurred:
-
Prophetic teams have been established. Early one morning, the Lord showed Mark that that would be the day to “seize the moment,” and that it was a crucial time. Indeed it was. We changed strategy. The pastor picked 40 of his top people. I trained them, and then during the final session of the next 3 days, those 13 teams did prophetic ministry to the other 150. I feel prophetic ministry is firmly established. The pastor will have the teams minister after each Sunday service. In addition, they are now prepared for ongoing training in the church and in the Bible school.
-
The apostolic has been accepted. My teaching wasn’t new, but somehow this time it went in much deeper. Both the pastor and the head of the Bible School (which trains over 100 students for active ministry each year) understand their callings, and have accepted being called “apostle.” In general, the people clearly understand and recognize the dynamics of apostolic anointing, and know they need this to fulfill their destinies. One business woman testified that at some earlier point, a person had put a curse on her. She had received prayer to break it, but still felt quite uneasy. When she realized that she, a believer, is fully called to move in the miraculous and advance the kingdom of God, she knew she could easily break and discard that curse.
-
Cleansing the land. The last two days, I began to share on how to “cleanse your land” and how it unlocks the hidden resources of God. I explained that when we cleanse the land, often people begin to physically clean it up (e.g. removing garbage). These are signs that the curses on the it have been broken and demonic strongholds removed. To model this, I led them in prayer to cleanse the ground of the building the church was in. (The church was on the 4th floor of a large building.) The next day, the shopkeepers below had swept the streets, washed some things, and had tidied up quite a bit.
“ASK ME FOR THE NATIONS.” Let me add one personal testimony. One activation I lead is for one person to pray in tongues while their partner interprets prophetically (1 Corinthians 14:13-14). While demonstrating it, my partner interpreted this for me: “Ask Me (The Lord) for the nations…” That hit me so hard. Strangely, I am one who goes to many nations, and assume they will just open up. Sometimes I am a bit concerned that development is slower than I like. Well, I want you to know that one of my main prayers has now become, “Lord give me the nations.” Give me Japan, Burma, Indonesia, Malaysia, Taiwan, Korea, Belarus, Russia, and wherever else I am to go...
I also want to explain about the impact of the devastating cyclone in May 2008. Over 200,000 lives were lost in Burma because of it. Many of you gave money to help FGA Church in relief work. Their relief work was exemplary. That church (with the help from overseas donors, of course) helped supply over 250,000 people with food, safe drinking water, clothing and temporary shelters.
But I also want to explain the spiritual impact. I had written earlier that natural disasters/events often mirror what is happening in the spiritual world and are frequently precursors to great spiritual breakthrough. I believe this is along the lines of what Jesus meant when He said, "Lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near (Luke 21:28)."
Anyway, Christians in Myanmar told me it was like the heavens opened and now people are getting saved in unusually high numbers. Across the board, churches are experiencing much more fruit. FGA, the church we work with, baptized over 300 people last year. Considering how stauchly the population is Buddhist, that's a huge increase.
Lets keep praying for Myanmar. Shifting and changes are underway.
